Nebraska Homestead Records

"The Homestead Act of 1862 changed the world with its offer of free land. Millions of people immigrated to America seeking their fortune, shifting populations along with the power of governments." Source: Homestead National Monument of America.

Beginning in September 2008, a searchable online index of over 65,000 homestead record images from the Broken Bow, Nebraska Land Office are available to the public. Credit goes to Homestead National Monument of America (HMNA) and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. The index is also available on the university's website. Eventually, over 30 million pieces of paper covering the complete files will be online.
